Early Years Inspiration
My report cards from school indicated an early interest and talent in writing and art. My mother read books literally whenever she could, and she read to me and my brother. Once I learned to read, I figured out that freedom could be gained by declaring I was "going to the library." I WOULD eventually end up at the library and did come home with armloads of checked-out books. But my path to the library was circuitous, taking me all over the neighborhood. So I had an incentive to make up stories both to lessen my parents worry and avoid possible constraints on any future wanderings. I believed my own stories so much that I started writing them down.
My 2nd-grade teacher once button-holed my father to praise my drawing and painting. When he said he would buy some paint-by-number kits for me, my teacher was horrified. This left such a lasting impression that my parents retold this story many times as I was growing up.
Yep, that's me at home in Montrose, Colorado. Circa 1957-59.

Hopes for readers
I hope readers are entertained, educated, and empowered when they read my books. From my perspective, these three "E-words" are the pillars of writing.
Artistic style
My style is Peter Rabbit meets Click Clack Moo! More familiar than fantastic, my art depicts where children find themselves. But sometimes the precious pastel colors give way to vibrant adventure.
